We Retired from 9-5

In July 2007 Audrey and I retired from the 9-5 routine and packed up all or worldly goods and set off for Greece. We purchased an old village house on the island of Crete, which needed a lot of renovation. Now after 3 years or so we are coming towards the end of the major works. We have long hot summers and beautiful mountain views. The winters can be somewhat harsh, very cold and when we get storms they are pretty fierce. That's when we go into lock down. Our main challenge is outside communication, we regularly get power cuts and the telephones go down. Despite having satellite for the computer and Skype we are pretty isolated so had to install a generator for emergency power. That's what you get for this idyllic kind of life. Another challenge is speaking Greek! We are managing pretty well with that too. We get regular visits from family and friends, well that is only to be expected!
